Ruth Bratcher and Maureen Herd decorated the Protection Township Gallery for the Book Discussion Series with a Western Theme.  Mary Holler, library director served refreshments from Cast Iron items.  The first Book Discussion was given by Joyce Thierer of Emporia State University and was on the book “Dancing at the Rascal Fair” by Ivan Doig a novel from Scottish sheep ranches in Montana.  16 ladies and one gentleman attended the first series and enjoyed this very much.  Most had read the book but this is not a requirement to attend the discussion.  The next book discussion will be September 20th in the Gallery of the library.  It will be on the book “Buffalo Girls” by Larry McMurtry, a novel where Calamity Jane tells the story of how she and her companion wind up in faraway London with Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show.  I do hope you can attend the next discussion, as I said you do not need to read the book first, just come for some great fun and refreshments.

Your also welcome to drop by the library and see the decorations in the gallery. Mary Eubank, Julie Herd provided cookies: sugar cookies, cow chip cookies and Scottish short bread.  Mary Holler the grapes: ‘Cactus Fruit’; nuts: ‘Pine nuts’; and the drinks: ‘Cactus Juice’.  Mary decorated her desk with a black and white check table cloth with punch and cookies served from old cast iron kettles and plates from the collection of cast iron given to her by Gerald Holler
September 20th we done our second Book Discussion.  Brenda Craven came and done “Buffalo Girls” by Larry McMurphy.  8 Ladies and 1 Gentlement joined us for the book review.  A lively discussion was enjoyed by all with fellowship and refreshments to follow.  I do hope to see  you all for the 3rd book discussion at the library on October 4th.
